Let’s be honest, it’s nice to be told “you did a good job”. In fact, in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, it’s the fourth tier “prestige and feeling of accomplishment”. Some folks do the work for the purpose of being recognized and others do it simply because they enjoy the work and want to do the best job they can. On this topic, as leaders, we have 2 responsibilities: 1) Motivate the team to do the work for the latter, 2) Recognize them for the work they do, when they do it! Not only will the individual appreciate the recognition, the team will appreciate the fact that their work is being recognized and you’ll feel pretty darn good yourself because your team will be happy and performing. I’ll never stop saying it, take care of your team and they will take care of you!
