Whether you’re a parent, teacher, leader or mentor, I think it is easy to fall into the trap of always trying to teach or pass your “wisdom”. No matter what your role in life is, you can and should always be learning too. While there is nothing wrong, and I encourage you to teach and pass along wisdom, take a day and say “show me what you know” or “explain how this works”. You might also say to your child, “I’ll hold the flashlight, you turn the wrench today”. You’re still being a parent, teacher, leader or mentor but at the same time, developing those behind us to do the same and building confidence at the same time. I wish someone would had taught me this lesson when I was much younger.
