Ask any person in a leadership position and they’ll probably tell you they have an Open Door Policy…but do they really? I did, and found that it was one of the most beneficial tools in my toolbox. What is your policy? Can folks come in without an appointment? Will you drop what you are doing on a busy day to stop and talk? Only you know the answer to that, but if you truly have an Open Door Policy you can change people’s lives and the culture of your organization. Word will spread that you are approachable. Word will spread that you listen. Word will spread that you sometimes say no, but you follow it up with an explanation. You may save a marriage, or a life, hear the idea that will make your organization better, or maybe just make somebody’s day better. Evaluate your Open Door Policy…it’s worth the time! Have a great day!
